Instead of falling into a void like The End, the player will fall back into the Overworld (note this is one-way moving up into/above the clouds from the Overworld will NOT result in entering the Aether). However, there is also another way to exit- by jumping off the floating islands and into the clouds below.

When entering the Aether, a portal will be generated in the new dimension, again just like the Nether Portal, which can be entered and exited, just like the Nether Portal.Īs noted above, the Aether can be exited through the Aether Portal. The portal should be "lit" with a Water Bucket instead of a Flint and Steel. The Aether can be entered by created a structure similar to the Nether Portal, but out of Glowstone instead of Obsidian.

You need fourteen Glowstone blocks to build a full Aether portal.Entering the Aether File:Aether II Portal.png You need ten Glowstone blocks to build a portal without edges. Trading with Villagers is effective, but you need several Emeralds to get enough Glowstone to build a portal.

You need four Glowstone Dust to make one Glowstone block. This method isn't very effective, as Witches are very strong and only have an uncommon chance of dropping Glowstone Dust. However, Aether Portals do not function in the Nether.Īs of newer versions, Aether Portals can be made before a player enters the Nether as Glowstone can be found easily by hunting Witches at night, or by trading with Villagers. Therefore, it is recommended to search for water, lava, and diamond if one intends to go to the Aether. It is required to make a Nether Portal before making an Aether Portal because Glowstone is required to make the portal. To activate the portal the player must use a Bucket of Water at the bottom of the portal frame, the same way one would use Flint and Steel to activate a Nether Portal. Instead of the dark Obsidian block, the frame of an Aether Portal is built using bright Glowstone blocks. This activates the portal and creates the blue swirls.Īether Portals are designed to look like the opposite of Nether Portals. Aether Portals are made by creating a five by four frame out of Glowstone blocks and then pouring a Bucket of Water inside the frame.
